  DESSERT WINES

A dessert wine, as the name suggests, is sweet. Due to this flavor characteristic, this wine best compliments desserts. Dessert wines go quite well with desserts such as bakery sweets, chocolates, fruits, etc. as long as the dessert is not sweeter than the wine itself.

Often extra spirits are added to when making these wines. Dessert wines are usually higher in alcohol than your regular table wines. These wines are also thicker, richer and sweeter than the table wines. The flavor qualities come from peach, oak, almonds, herbs.

The grapes used in making these wines are usually picked late in the harvest to preserve residual sugars. Hence, sweet.

White dessert wines are best served chilled and red dessert wines taste their best when served between the temperature of 15 degrees to 18 degrees Celsius.
